Where Plaid bank connections are available
ExpenseBot currently enables Plaid-powered bank and card connections in the United States and Canada only.
Plaid's Transactions product also operates at the platform level in 18 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Those European markets are not enabled for ExpenseBot today. Enabling Europe requires an additional Plaid product-access request and a separate European production-compliance process; it is not a code-only switch. A country being supported for ExpenseBot receipt capture and reporting does not automatically mean Plaid connections are available there.
For a specific US or Canadian bank, open the secure bank-connection window in ExpenseBot and search for the institution. Coverage changes, so Plaid Link is the live source of truth; no static bank list can guarantee a particular institution or account type.
You can still use ExpenseBot without connecting a bank. Gmail scanning, forwarded receipts, photo/PDF uploads, Google Drive imports, Google Sheets, and ordinary reports do not require Plaid. Credit-card reconciliation also accepts a PDF or CSV statement.
Cross-check your scanned expenses against your credit card statement — connect your card via Plaid for automatic weekly reconciliation, or upload your statement as a PDF or CSV if you prefer not to connect directly.
To enable automatic reconciliation: after connecting your bank via Plaid, make sure the reconciliation toggle is switched ON in your bank connection settings. Once on, ExpenseBot automatically pulls your transactions on a weekly schedule and emails you when they're ready to review — no manual action needed.
💡 Credit card statements give the cleanest results — nearly every line has a matching receipt. Bank/chequing statement CSVs also work: only debits are treated as spending, and receipt-less payments like rent or direct debits will show as unmatched (that's normal — add or ignore each in a click). For the deposit side of a bank statement, upload the same file under Add Income → Log Income → From CSV.
🏦 What credit card reconciliation does: ✅ Cross-check expenses - Match your scanned receipts against your credit card statement ✅ Find missing expenses - Catch deductible purchases that weren't captured by Gmail scanning ✅ Month-by-month verification - Ensure every business expense is accounted for ✅ Home office deductions - Track utilities, internet, and rent payments automatically
Works best once you have 20+ receipts already processed in your account.
🔐 Security: Plaid connections are secured with bank-grade encryption. ExpenseBot never sees your login credentials.
💡 Looking to pull your full year of transactions for tax prep? If you want all your transactions for a full tax year — including income — use the Year-End Tax Workbook instead. Find it under My Reports → Year-End Tax Report.
