How much GST/HST do I owe or get back?

Canadian freelancer and incorporated workspaces get a running GST/HST estimate and a full GST/HST Summary report. Both use the amounts you've recorded.

Running estimate

On the Add Income tab, the GST/HST estimate sits under Client invoices. For the year to date it shows:

  • the GST/HST you collected on income;
  • the GST/HST you paid on purchases;
  • the estimated net to remit or get back.

It also shows the GST/HST on invoices that aren't paid yet. If some rows have no tax recorded, the card says the figure is incomplete instead of showing zero.

Full report

  1. Open My Reports, then GST/HST Summary, or select Pick another period on the card.
  2. Choose a period and select Preview.
  3. Rows with no recorded tax are listed so you can confirm them. Then create the report.

To fix a number, correct a purchase's GST/PST in Review Expenses (see fixing GST and PST on an expense) or an income row's Tax collected in Review Income.

It's an estimate from your records, not a GST/HST return, and ExpenseBot doesn't file for you.
