How do I fix the GST/HST and PST on an expense?

A Canadian receipt can carry more than one sales tax: GST or HST plus PST, QST or RST. If ExpenseBot split them wrong, fix it in the app. There's no need to edit the spreadsheet.

A Canadian receipt can carry more than one sales tax: GST or HST plus PST, QST or RST. If ExpenseBot split them wrong, fix it in the app. There's no need to edit the spreadsheet.

  1. Open Review Expenses and find the expense.
  2. Select its amount (the pencil next to it) to open Edit expense details.
  3. In Amounts, check that Tax matches the receipt.
  4. Under Tax breakdown, enter each tax on the receipt: GST or HST, the provincial tax (PST, QST in Quebec, RST in Manitoba), and any other tax or levy.
  5. The line under the fields shows whether they add up to Tax. Save changes stays unavailable until they do, or until they're all zero.
  6. Select Save changes. You can Undo right after saving.

If the receipt shows only one tax, select All GST (or All HST) to fill it in one step.

ExpenseBot updates your Google Sheet and the GST/HST estimate and GST/HST Summary use your split right away. Reports you already created are snapshots, so create an affected report again to include the correction. If the expense is split across categories, edit or remove that split first.

These are the amounts you record, not tax advice.
