How do I import receipts from Google Drive?

What does “Non-receipt document type” mean during import?

This message does not mean you configured a folder automation or uploaded an unsupported file format. A PDF can be rejected by a filename-based document check before its contents are extracted. If the error includes /report\b(?!.*expense)/i, it identifies that filename check, not a PDF-format error and not proof that the document lacks a receipt.

Open the selected file and check that it really contains the receipt or invoice you intended to import. If it does, contact support@expensebot.ai with the exact error and filename so the false rejection can be investigated. Do not repeatedly import the whole folder or set up Zapier filters to fix this error. If it is a non-receipt document, select the actual receipt instead.

The instructions below are for the built-in Drive Picker. A separate external folder automation is relevant only when you actually configured one.

🤝 Shared folders work too: If a colleague, bookkeeper, or admin has shared a Drive folder with you, it will appear in the Drive Picker. Navigate to "Shared with me" in the Picker to find and select files from those shared folders.

⚠️ Note: ExpenseBot doesn't automatically scan Drive in the background — you select the files manually each time via the Picker. This keeps you in control of exactly what gets processed.
