ExpenseBot can report on your fiscal year instead of the calendar year. Tell it when your year ends and the Report Wizard offers fiscal-year and fiscal-quarter periods that follow it.
Set your fiscal year end
- Open Settings and find the General Settings card.
- Choose Configure Settings.
- Under Fiscal Year End, pick a preset — December 31 (Calendar Year), March 31, April 5, June 30, September 30, January 31 or October 31 — or Custom Date... to choose any month and day.
- Save.
How periods are worked out
- A fiscal year is labelled by the calendar year in which it ends. A year running July 1 to June 30 is named after the June it ends in, so the year ending June 30 is "FY" plus that year.
- Each fiscal quarter is three months counted from the fiscal-year start. With a September 30 year end, Q1 is October to December and Q4 is July to September.
- Mid-month year ends keep their day: with April 5, each quarter starts on the 6th and ends on the 5th.
- In the Report Wizard, fiscal options appear as FY<year> Q<n> and FY<year>, with their dates shown. Asking the assistant for "last quarter" or "this year" as a report uses your fiscal calendar too.
Limits
- 4-4-5, 4-5-4 and 52/53-week retail calendars are not supported; fiscal periods are month-and-day based.
- Spending and P&L questions such as "Q3" or "year to date" use calendar periods, not fiscal ones.
- ExpenseBot is not a general ledger: it does not post accruals or lock a closed period. The close itself stays in your accounting software.
