ExpenseBot's Spending Breakdown shows your personal spending two ways at once — by category and by merchant — in one free report.
The core insight: Most budgeting apps only group spending by category (Groceries, Dining, Shopping), so they can never answer "how much did I spend at Amazon this year?" — because Amazon orders get split across five categories. The Merchant view gives you a single "Amazon — $487 (18 transactions)" line alongside the Category totals. Both views are in the same report.
What each view shows:
- By Category: Groceries · Dining Out · Software · Travel · Utilities — the traditional buckets, with amount, % of total, and transaction count for each.
- By Merchant: One line per merchant (Amazon, Costco, Netflix, Whole Foods…). Common variants are merged automatically — Amazon.com, Amazon UK, and recognizable variations appear as one "Amazon" line.
Other features:
- Optional merchant filter: include/exclude specific merchants to build a custom view
- Any time range: last month, last quarter, last year, or a custom date range
- Net of refunds: returns cancel out; account transfers and credit card payments are excluded — you see real spending, not money movement
- No manual entry: the report reads from expenses ExpenseBot already captured from Gmail receipts
How to access it: My Reports → Insights → Spending Breakdown. Available in Personal mode (free). Business-mode users go to Settings → switch to Personal mode to unlock it.
